Today is Tuesday. Today, I got a letter from my friend, Joe, who is caged in Tenn. I want to share what he said to me:
Hello there. Thank you so much for the money. I wish I could put into words just how happy you’ve made me by helping me out some. I’ve been in prison since Jan 10th, 2010 and until you helped me out, I’ve had nothing. I know money isn’t everything but I have begged my family for help and they have never offered. Since you’ve helped me, I’ve been able to buy me some nice smelling hygene instead of the cheap stuff. I even bought me a used pair of Tennis Shoes and some new boxers a guy was selling. After wearing those state boots for so long and I finally get my feet into some comfortable shoes is awesome. Plus I’ve been able to get some Commissary and eat some good stuff. Thank you so so very much. I love the guitar. My fingers are so sore but I’m loving it…”
I have new sneakers. I don’t have to wait to get new underwear. I can get an apple or banana anytime I want.
I once heard a professor say how we were getting screwed because people in prison get exercise equipment and television. He spoke as if these people were taking a week at a spa.
Joe is my friend. He’s not at a spa. He has been fighting for justice for 9 years for a crime he didn’t commit. It wouldn’t matter if he was guilty, he’s still human.
