Day 877 tightfisted

Today is Sunday. Today, I marveled at how damn tightfisted people can be. I have gone to merchants in the area trying to get donations (and we are not talking about large $ amounts).
I am on a committee to raise awareness and seek donations for a fall picnic that my not for profit Concerned Citizens for Justice Reform is sponsoring. We are having this for the loved ones of those incarcerated. We will be having prizes and raffles and food.  We want these people to know we care and they are not alone.
When someone is in prison; the entire family unit might as well be in there, too. It affects so many besides the one behind bars.
I try to educate people. I try to dispel the myth that everyone who is in prison belongs in prison. I try to make people aware of human rights issues.
I try to do my part and ask those around me to help. I mean, most people I’ve spoken to get it.
The one thing I can’t do; I can’t make people compassionate and open their hands to help financially.
I’m sorry; but, I don’t want sympathy or someone to just agree with me.
Today, I bought the gift certificates.

To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Peace my friends.
