Day 783 books for prisoners

Today is Thursday. Today the federal BOP reversed their decision to disallow books from other vendors. The bureau of prisons wanted to have inmates order the books through their commissaries and at a 30% markup. This would mean they would control the reading material. Inmates would be limited to 5 books at a time for a period of time. Matt went through that in infamous Bowling Green.  He could get only 5 books within a 6 month period.
I was, quite frankly, heartsick. I send books and give to Books for Prisoners program. This would have stopped me and many others from sending books.
I am cheering loudly that the bureau received such bad press about this. These are not people trying to rehabilitate, restore, educate; this book issue was about making money and depriving inmates of learning about what’s going on outside the walls.
In the fight for dignity and humanity, we saw a victory today. We have such a long long way to go and many days it’s overwhelming; but, we take the victories, maybe small and we keep our voices loud and strong for those who are silenced.
For my indigent guys who depend on getting their books for free; I sang out today on their behalf.
God: Don’t ever let me take for granted the simple pleasure of reading.

Peace my dear friends..;)❤

    Are these for-profit prisons?

It was every federal prison..and realistically they are all for profit..because that is why we have so many in prison…makes great money.
