Day 296 Thoughts beyond 2016

Today is Saturday.  Today is New Years Eve.  Today, I tried to recall on the events, deaths, struggles and blessings that have made up 2016.  There is still so much to do going forward, that it prompted me to write this:

Don’t Give Me Your Sympathy…

Sending up prayers? Well that’s okay,

But, I’m standing out here naked.

How will your petitions keep me warm?

Don’t give me your sympathy

Without hands and feet attached

Will you feed me, clothe me with real love?

Unfair laws created used to abuse and control

A victim standing alone, rights violated.

How will your silence, a shake of your head change his fate?

Don’t give me your sympathy

Without hands and feet attached

Will you not intervene, lend your voice of love?

Shooting stars above, but bombs across the sea

Brown children standing not, dying as acceptable fodder

How will miles and labels deny the truth?

Don’t give me your sympathy

Without hands and feet attached.

Work for peace, support the oppressed, give out your love.

Real sympathy moves the heart, and the heart calls us to action.

Leaving 2016 behind, may 2017 make us agents of change, purveyors of peace, voices for the voiceless, lovers especially for those orphaned from society.

Peace my friends…Happy New Year.
